Crisis Management

Crisis management is the process by which the organisation ensures that major incidents are considered in relation to the business as a whole (taking the helicopter view) rather than getting bogged down in managing the incident itself.

Crisis management is normally owned by top management who engage with stakeholders, including the news media where relevant, and oversee management of the incident by appropriate specialists. Clear, honest and regular communication to all interested parties is of paramount importance.  A key focus is on ensuring that emergency response is activated as early as possible to address human issues; the incident itself is being managed locally by appropriate authorities, management, specialists and so on; and the business continuity plan/s are activated as necessary.
